Surie Polex Diamond Polishing Pads
When they hear the words “diamond polishing pads” most people don’t know what they are. There are, in fact, a lot of
misconceptions out there. A lot of people who are not from the stone industry
think that they are the pads that polish diamonds used in jewelry. This is
actually far from the truth. So to finally address everyone’s questions and to
clearly define diamond polishing pads we decided to write a blog about them.
Let’s begin with a somewhat textbook definition.
Diamond polishing pads are resin bonded diamond abrasives used for the grinding
and polishing of natural stone, engineered stone and concrete. The word diamond
in the name comes from the synthetic (man-made) diamond powder that is used to
make these polishing pads. Synthetic diamond powder is the best abrasive grain
available for grinding and polishing of stone.
Diamond polishing pads are basically bonded abrasives. Various types of resins are used along with synthetic diamond powder to make the diamond polishing pads that are so popular today. There are two main types of diamond polishing pads available today. The first type (known as DCRPD, Figure 1) has a plastic holder and the second type has a hook-and-loop back.
The most popular diamond polishing pad by
far is DCRPD and it is used with hand held high speed angle grinder machines.
It is mainly used for edge polishing of granite. The other popular diamond
polishing pad (known as DCRF, Figures 2, 3 and 4) are also referred to as a
flexible polishing pad. This is because they are thin (typically in the range
of 2mm-5mm) and the hook-and-loop backer used allows them to flex easily. These
are used for a wide variety of applications like marble, granite and concrete
polishing and on many different machines such as a floor polishers and hand
polishers. Finally there are even thicker pads (like DJ3R, Figure 5 or DJ4R,
Figure 6) that are made for specialized applications like floor polishing of
concrete.
Concrete Polishing pads are a cost-effective floor-cleaning solution. Concrete polishing pads are available in various sizes and shapes to fit various purposes in different circumstances.
